RELISH

Ordering a burger here can be a maddening experience, only because the options are endless and the side offerings are distractingly tempting.

When in doubt, stick to the basics: the classic beef burgers ($8.99) are delicious, the buffalo burgers ($11.99) extra flavorful, and the turkey burgers ($8.99) are surprisingly juicy. Go crazy with the toppings and do not skip the Relish shakes (the salted caramel shake is addictive, $6.37). And if you’re still craving dessert, Relish has three words for you: hot fresh doughnuts ($4.99 for five, $7.99 for 10). Open Monday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

PB Post: 3 places where they are makin’ bacon doughnuts

By Liz Balmaseda

You can be too hip for a bacon-studded doughnut, that gilded object of gastro pub lust that’s so very 2009.

But even a hipster must recognize that a doughnut is a genius vehicle for bacon. It’s the sweet to bacon’s salty, the foamy-soft to bacon’s crisp…

Here are three places to indulge your craving. Afterwards, hipsters, you can go back to your vinegar shrub-spritzed cocktails and foraged purslane.

PB Post: S’wonderful, s’marvelous Sunday! Get your S’mores Day fix

By Liz Balmaseda

It’s Super Sugary Sunday, or as the food holiday calendar would call it: National S’mores Day.

If reading this historical tidbit made you crave a gooey, still-smoldering s’more, here’s where you can get your fix:

SHAKE IT UP:  You can sip your s’mores at Relish, the burger joint in Northwood, which offers a s’mores shake. (RelishBurger.com)

New Times: Ten Best Burgers in Palm Beach County

Relish Facebook

Relish
Buffalo burgers? Yes — but only at Relish, where specialty meats abound. This cozy and quaint Northwood Village burger spot has the ultimate mix-and-match menu where you can choose from about a dozen types of meat. There’s beef, turkey, tuna, mahi, shrimp, lamb, buffalo, and veal — all of which are freshly ground or made in-house each day. Next, add any number of Relish’s 20-plus gourmet toppings. There are relatively normal offerings, like lettuce slaw and drunken onions cooked in lager. And then there’€™s the wacky stuff you would never have thought to put on a burger in a million years, like oven-roasted beets with fresh herbs or shaved asparagus with white wine and tarragon. But hey, if that’s how you like to pimp your burger, go for it.

How does one top a buffalo burger? At Relish, Northwood’s shrine to burger artistry, you can top that — and a dozen other types of burgers — with your choice of more than 20 toppings. We went for the Sweet & Smokey Bacon jam topping (with a side of Velvety Horseradish, for dipping fries) on a recent visit and the result was a flavor fest. Juicy burger, flavor-popping relish, outstanding sides (crispy polenta fingers, I’m talking to you) make this casual corner spot worth a visit. Best reason to linger: hot, fresh doughnuts and salted caramel milkshakes!
